Made famous by Ronald Regan, the phrase “Are you better off today than 4 years ago?” has been used to draw comparisons between the policies of governing parties. This series will look at some historic moments from 2020 to answer that question.

We can disagree about policy, but we cannot argue about the instability we faced under the 45th president. From the increase in grocery prices due to tariffs, the change in the tax laws, to the COVID-19 pandemic, those years were not calm or, in my opinion, preferable to now.

Some of these topics will come back up in later installments. Today is focusing on that infamous comment from 4 years ago.

Drink Bleach Day: 4/23/2020

On March 11, 2020, the US government declared COVID a pandemic. The next day states began issuing stay at home orders. From there until about 2022 COVID dominated our lives.

Daily briefings were started shortly after and continued through the end of April. It was at one of these late April conferences that Donald Trump mused that bleach or some other disinfectant could be used to fight the infection.
