Oath or Honor

She had been beautiful, at least by Western Standards — he had seen the movie posters from Hollywood. Surely, she had drawn the gazes of the men in her village.
Though they were dead now and she would join them shortly. He tried not to think about what would happen before that.
Quiet on the table before him, too petrified to move as he tied her limbs, her eyes watched him. Not quite the woman of his dreams, but still lovely.
In fact, he had once held a mirror so she could see her face. That had been several months ago, and she was not as comely now.
Her sunken eyes with their dark circles and the once lush hair lay lank on the table. But his eyes were not on her face, he could not look at her.
As he strapped her arms and legs to the table, he fancied he heard her say something. He suspected she was begging.
But there was nothing he could do. There was nothing either of them could do. They were both prisoners. Her of his government and he of his honor.
